Keys to the Kingdom

So you took the plunge! You heard God calling you into closer intimacy…maybe during praise and worship…maybe during a message from His word…either way YOU heard and TOOK that freedom walk to the altar and handed over the keys! Praise God and may I welcome you to the family! I am so excited for you and am rejoicing with the angels in Heaven to have you brother or sister…whichever the case may be. Now I have to heed a warning. Listen to me closely.  You are now…an enemy to the kingdom of darkness and will be treated like one. I love you too much to let you go on unassuming and get smacked in the face when the devil fires back. He will…but you will be ready! Don’t hear this as doom and gloom. This is preparation. Soldiers don’t go into battle unpracticed and ill prepared. No. They train for every situation that could come at them on the battlefield and in the enemy’s camp…and so do we. Let’s prepare. What does our instruction book say?..

Matthew 7:24-27

24-25 “These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.

26-27 “But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.”

The wise and foolish builders…We are not exempt from storms. They are going to come. I wish I could tell you differently. That storms and trials and battles and pain were magically swept away in the twinkling of an eye the minute you decide to change your life. The moment that you hand over the keys but I can’t. In fact life will more than likely get worse. Things will probably get harder and you will more than likely ask yourself what the heck is happening. I just gave my life over to you God. Where are you now?! Rest assured that the enemy will not flee without a fight and God has not turned His back. You are now a threat to the kingdom of darkness, his enemy and he is going to stomp his feet and throw a tantrum. When struggles come it helps to know if your foundation is built upon a rock or sand. It determines how you fight.

Key # 1 to successfully handing over the keys is knowing who is in control.

Deuteronomy 5:29  says: What I wouldn’t give if they’d always feel this way, continuing to revere me and always keep all my commands; they’d have a good life forever, they and their children! Holding fast to His word and following His commands secures the life of you and your children! You have to remember in the middle of the battle that God is with you! You are not fighting the enemy for yourself alone and you are not even in this by yourself. Jesus did it first…he has the field advantage here and knows all the secrets to success. Follow His lead. You’ve already got this battle won. Skip down to vs. 32…

32-33 So be very careful to act exactly as God commands you. Don’t veer off to the right or the left. Walk straight down the road God commands so that you’ll have a good life and live a long time in the land that you’re about to possess.

Key #2 to successfully handing over the keys is to follow His lead.

Luke 12:22-34

22-24 He continued this subject with his disciples. “Don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or if the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your inner life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the ravens, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, carefree in the care of God. And you count far more.

25-28 “Has anyone by fussing before the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? If fussing can’t even do that, why fuss at all? Walk into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They don’t fuss with their appearance—but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them. If God gives such attention to the wildflowers, most of them never even seen, don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?

29-32 “What I’m trying to do here is get you to relax, not be so preoccupied with getting so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep yourself in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Don’t be afraid of missing out. You’re my dearest friends! The Father wants to give you the very kingdom itself.

33-34 “Be generous. Give to the poor. Get yourselves a bank that can’t go bankrupt, a bank in heaven far from bankrobbers, safe from embezzlers, a bank you can bank on. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.

Get your eyes off of the world’s vision of life…they have it incredibly twisted. The devil has done an excellent job of distracting us from the call on our lives. He will convince you that if you don’t go after the world for yourself you will never reach the promise land…you’ll never have anything…you’ll live in want and dissatisfaction. He perverts the word convincing us to strive for the Kingdom instead of the King. God’s Kingdom is eternal! Take a look at Daniel 4:3. “His miracles are staggering, his wonders are surprising. His kingdom lasts and lasts, his sovereign rule goes on forever. Our kingdom is carnal as explained here in Matthew 6:19-21.

19-21 “Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or—worse!—stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it’s safe from moth and rust and burglars. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.   God asks that we first seek His Kingdom and then all of these things that were promised will be added to us. Often times the reason we aren’t seeing the promises on our lives is because we have allowed the devil to twist things and we are stuck in the desert until we correct our mindset…even if it takes 40 years.

Key # 3 to successfully handing over the keys is to trust Him at His word.

Listen…God laid the foundation for your success many, many years ago. You just need to study the manual. It’s all in there. Prepare yourself so when the enemy comes you can stand and do so with confidence. God has your back. Jesus navigatedi the battlefield and obliterated the enemy. Made a stop in hell,  took back the keys to the kingdom, and handed them to you. You just realized that in your control your kingdom is worthless and handed that control back to Him. The enemy has been reduced to a junk yard dog. He makes himself look mean, makes a little noise but in the end he’s leashed and he knows it. All you have to do is STAND. Know who is in control. Follow His lead. Trust Him at His word. Success to you and the Kingdom!!!
